"Can't Cry Hard Enough: A tribute to the victims of September 1, 2011" This is still one of the most moving tributes I've seen from the tragedy of 911. It was put together by a guy by the name of Jason Powers soon after 911 and generated a massive number of views. Unfortunately the original website seems to have disappeared off the web with statistics of the number of views and downloads. A lot of copies of the flash file have found their way onto the web. This is the original file I downloaded at the time. Unfortunately there is no controller to pause or navigate the presentation and the "download" link at the end of the video is no longer to a valid url. ...Brian Coyne 3m [Post on Catholica where this was displayed for the 10th Anniversary of 911 08Sep11]

A World of Their Own This video put together by Stephen ("Oh Yet We Trust") of the Catholica Community is based on The Seeker's song "A World of Our Own" and seeks to express the feelings of a victim of sexual abuse at how remote the leadership of the Holy Roman Catholic Church has become from the people they are meant to be serving. It was first posted on the Catholica Forum on 7th May 2011 and has generated an extraordinary reaction as illustrated in the post linked at the end of this summary. 3m10s [Message on the Catholica Forum 08May2011 illustrating something of the impact this video had in one 77 year old man's life]

"The New Creed" We should claim her as our own resident video artist. Billy has created this video flowing partly out of recent discussions on the Catholica Forum. She writes in explanation: "Ben Harper sits right at the heart of it with this paticular song, it's a song apparently about his father, others say it was a girlfriend, and yet I think it is this and more than all of that as well. But thanks for the inspiration to put the creed to music.". 8m 15s. [Originally published on Catholica on 31Oct2010]

"All the Candles in the World" Jan Siberry This video was produced by Billy from our own community. It is a reflection that she put together in the immediate wake of Pope Benedict's disappointing Pastoral Letter to the People of Ireland. She put the video together around the music of Canadian composer and singer, Jane Siberry. We have received permission from Jane Siberry to publish this video on YouTube and on Catholica. We invite you to join in this prayerful reflection for the victims of abuse. It might also be appreciated as a reflection on where Catholicism is going as a religious institution. 3m 63s [Originally posted on the Catholica forum as the lead commentary on 14May10]

"Lux Aurumque" Virtual Choir Performance This superb video was posted on the Catholica forum by DavidC and then subsequently taken up as the basis for a lead commentary examining how we measure the 'success' of Catholicism? Isn't the making of this sort of music at heart a deeply spiritual exercise compared to the experience, or value, that a person might get out of attending church? The work and the idea was composed and put together by Eric Whitacre and was performed by a "virtual choir" located in diverse locations around the world by electronic means using the internet. 6m 20s [Originally posted on the Catholica forum by DavidC and then taken up as a commentary 11May10]

Love by Kahlil Gibran This video was posted on the Catholica forum as part a post-Easter response by Stephen on Easter Monday 2010. It's a musicial rendition of Kahlil Gibran's poem on "Love". Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese American artist, poet, and writer. Born in the Christian Maronite town of Bsharri in modern-day Lebanon (then part of the Ottoman Mount Lebanon mutasarrifate). His mother Kamila, was the daughter of a Maronite priest; his father, also named Kahlil, was her third husband. As a result of his family's poverty, Gibran received no formal schooling during his youth. However, priests visited him regularly and taught him about the Bible, as well as the Arabic and Syriac languages. As a young man, Gibran emigrated with his family to the United States where he studied art and began his literary career. 6m 15s [Stephen's original post on our forum which featured this clip 05Apr10]

A video response to Peter Kennedy This video was posted as part of a response in our forum by an ex-parishioner of exiled priest Peter Kennedy, Stephen. Many have been hurt by the Church but we need to keep our anger in check as we continue to search for those things "of the Spirit" that we were searching for when we were within the Church. The music, "Heaven and Earth", is by Georg Deuter. Even without the Peter Kennedy connection this is a great video clip for meditation. 6m 50s [Stephen's original post on our forum with his letter to Peter 15Feb10]

Finding Joy Right Under Our Noses To appreciate this video in context you really need to read the story posted by Billy on the Catholica Forum. World-renowned violinist, Joshua Bell, posed outside a subway station as a busker and few took notice of him. Two days later he played in a theatre in Boston and people willingly paid over $100 a ticket to watch him perform. 2m 36s [Billy's original post on our forum with the full story 10Feb10]

A Moving Video from Ukraine's Got Talent Ukraine artist, Kseniya Simonova, creates a sand sculpture to a medley of music that had the audience in tears. I hope the message touches your hearts." 4m 16s [Catholica forum post where Billy first published this 09Aug09]

I Want To Know What Love Is 2002 live performance of the hit "I Want To Know What Love Is". Posted in response to a comment on the forum by DavidC: "I sometimes wonder if jerimands against homosexuality, and the like are reflections of the fear of one's own impulses, of fears of where radical self acceptance might take one". 5m 41s [Catholica forum post where Billy first published this 07Aug09]

"Say Sorry" – A Tribute Video to Ann Thompson and all victims of Sexual Abuse In the light of the release of the Report of the Irish Commission into Child Abuse, {LINK] and the imminent release of Ann Thompson's book, Say Sorry, telling of her experiences of abuse in orphanages In New Zealand, Catholica member, Billy, put this video together based on the music of Archie Roach, Walking into Doors. 5m 36s [Catholica forum post where Billy first published this 25May09] | [Reposted on Catholica 02 May 2010 along with an introduction to Ann's book "Say Sorry"]

A Plea to Catholic Church Leaders on behalf of abuse victims This is a plea to the Catholic Church to respond to the cries of abuse victims with the compassion and justice of Jesus and with the heart and mind of human beings and not to hide behind the walls of the Vatican and try to save face. A special thanks to Ben Harper for the incredible song and to all the amazing photographers and artists who provided the material for this video. And may all those who have been abused, those who appear on this video find the peace, justice and healing they need and absolutely deserve: You are totally within your right to seek these and the church must put you, the victims and survivors, before any image or prestige or desire to save face. Then, and only then, will they have any right to call themselves followers of Christ. Video compiled by Stephen "Oh Yet We Trust" — a victim of abuse and member of the Catholica community. 6m 20s [Catholica forum post where Stephen first published this 17May09]

Good Friday Combining clips from "The Passion Of The Christ" with the song "The Lamb" by Low — I made this video to set the tone for a Good Friday service where we focused on the short time between Christ's death and his resurrection. The Passion as sung by Fairouz Entirely dressed in black, Fairouz, the legendary Lebanese singer, kneels with great humility before the altar and the crucifix upon which Jesus Christ was nailed and unleashes her impeccable voice as she sings in exaltation: "Today, He was hung on a piece of wood, The Man who hung the world above water.... We kneel before your Passion o' Christ ... We kneel before your Passion o' Christ." The year was 1965, and the place, a church in Beirut, Lebanon. 2m 06s [Good Friday Reflection 2009]

How economic inequality harms societiesHow economic inequality harms societies... We feel instinctively that societies with huge income gaps are somehow going wrong. Richard Wilkinson charts the hard data on economic inequality, and shows what gets worse when rich and poor are too far apart: real effects on health, lifespan, even such basic values as trust. Richard Wilkinson, is Professor Emeritus of Social Epidemiology at the University of Nottingham, and cofounder of The Equality Trust, a nonprofit that aims to reduce income inequality by educating and engaging the public while supporting political commitment to address the problem. 16m55s [String on the Catholica Forum where the general issue of wealth inequality and this documentary was first discussed 25Jan12] | [WATCH THE VIDEO]
