Catholica Sunday Commentary: Reflection one on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit – Piety
Fear of the Lord…

For our Sunday reflection we have pleasure in presenting a series of prayers reflecting on the Gifts and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit that have been adapted from a recent series presented in the Daily Prayer in the Classroom program published by the the Catholic Education Office, Parramatta.

Reflections on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Fear of the Lord

Prayer Text:

We pray today through the intercession of Mary, the Mother of God,
and daughter of Saints Joachim and Ann.

Mother Mary, you have so much you can teach us about this Seventh Gift of the Holy Spirit, fear of the Lord.

Our God does often seem to place big obstacles in our pathway,
or asks us to take on seemingly huge tasks.

Help us to see, in the ways you did, and in the ways your parents,
Joachim and Ann, did when the Angel asked you
to bring the Son of God into the world, when we need to respect
the will of God.

Teach us that the Gift of Fear of the Lord is all about respecting
the will of God when, seemingly, like yourself,
we are asked to take on the impossible.

We ask for your intercession, Mary, and the intercession of Joachim and Ann,
that the Holy Spirit may guide our lives through these seven holy gifts of wisdom,
understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord, Amen
