Fortitude…

For our Sunday reflection we have pleasure in presenting a series of prayers reflecting on the Gifts and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit that have been adapted from a recent series presented in the Daily Prayer in the Classroom program published by the the Catholic Education Office, Parramatta.

Reflections on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Fortitude

Prayer Text:

Father in Heaven who breathed these words of wisdom
into your Son, Jesus…

"In the world you will have hardship, but be courageous. I have conquered the world." (John 16:33)

Fortify us with the strength
to stay true to goodness and truth in our lives
when we are faced with the temptation
to look for shortcuts and take the easy way out.

We ask you for the wisdom
to always temper our courage with prudence though
and show us the difference between fortitude
and bravado, recklessness and the behaviours of show offs.

We pray for the wisdom to make intelligent decision in our lives,
the understanding to be able to discern when to endure
and when to let go.

We also pray for the ability to listen to good counsel,
and to give good counsel to our friends and those
whom we are called upon to assist in life.

We ask for these gifts of the Holy Spirit
through Jesus Christ, Your Son, and Our Lord, Amen
