Cardinal Pell and Brisbane (Main Forum)

by PatrickW @, Saturday, March 24, 2012, 10:34 (426 days ago)

From the Catholic Leader on line -

•Cardinal George Pell explains Vatican II implications in Brisbane

I don't buy the Leader and have no means of getting one.

With no Archbishop, and a NSW bishop [off hand I can't recall his name] calling a couple of times a week, and a Brisbane auxiliary bishop looking after Toowoomba, I'd be interested in what his comments might be.

Anybody know?

Satan subtle of tacticians in getting individuals on his side before they know it, in discrediting the Church, destroying morale and enticing desertion.

Couldn't pick up the article on George Pell but I found this to be interesting!

I note that he doesn't mention the priests who have discredited the Church, destroying morale and enticing desertion! Now, of course he may have meant this, but he should spell it out or it looks like the 'laity' are at fault for leaving in droves.

Yes I wish you would spell it out Bishop Jarrett two years ago you wrote also about the Pornography in your letter for Lent, the Devil seems to be one of your main topics here. I wonder what he is doing in regards to his Priest that are sitting up all night watching Pornograpy, I know men are men but not everyone of them like this sought of thing, has it any use at all in todays world?? I would hate to be sitting in Mass knowing that the Priest has been up all night watching this crap, how confused are these Priests i think they would find it hard to live out here in the real world with the rest of us so they think that this is their little secret but it isn't fellows..PEOPLE KNOW!!

A 'homily' strait from the 1950s! :gaah:

Not one word of living in the Love of God who loves us to bits. No, he concentrates on evil. Well you will see evil if that is what you are looking for but if you take another look, you will also see the grandeur of God all around.

Bishop Jarrett's Lenten Letter to the Catholics of Brisbane!

by desi @, Australia, Saturday, March 24, 2012, 20:33 (426 days ago) @ Helen

Thanks for this link, Helen, in case it gets missed this is a Pastoral Letter Bishop Jarrett Apostolic Administrator of Brisbane.

Quite extraordinary!

.
Of course, he could have said:

Your bishops are quite properly expected to make a public stand and to exercise what influence they can, for instance, in the face of demands for justice for one of their fellow bishops.
Would that we had, even though Bishop Morris had the overwhelming backing of that 26% of Australians who own to being Catholics!

It is only available for on-line subscribers and after some searching (!) I discovered this:

VATICAN II and its impact on today's Church was the topic of a talk given by Cardinal George Pell at a recent Knights of Malta Queensland branch breakfast in Brisbane.

I don't know anything about this 'group' but I would guess that they may not be a part of the liberal/left/reforming wing of the RCC!

.
Footnote.

A quick look at their website tells me that the main qualifications sought in those invited to join are to be a Catholic in good standing and to be verified by Church authorities.
:gaah:
In addition, each new aspirant to membership is required to engage in a twelve-month probation before membership is finally submitted to Rome.
:gaah::gaah:

Not sure how many ladies are members but...

It should be noted that the Order encourages and warmly welcomes the involvement of spouses of members in its various activities. Thus some of the spiritual activities such as the Masses and Retreats are often supported by members' spouses, family members and friends. The same is true of the very enjoyable social gatherings conducted by the Order.

Financial Obligations

Most new members will be admitted with the rank of Knight or Dame of Magistral Grace. The financial obligations, apart from certain ones, are limited to (currently) $650 AUD per annum subscription. The initial expense (in all countries) is that if accepted by the Sovereign Council in Rome, the new member, except as mentioned below, is expected to make a once-off payment equivalent to 2,000 Euros (or in some circumstances a lesser amount), depending on which form of membership is chosen by the member. This payment, which is known as "passage money", is to sustain the cost of conducting the Grand Magistry, which is the international Headquarters of the Order. The origin of the term "passage money" is that when a Knight volunteered his services to fight in the Holy Land he was expected to pay the cost of his passage!

The cost in joining is obviously substantial, but it is a way in which members are called upon to contribute to the very considerable costs of running the central government of the Order. As the descriptive material shows, the Order has very extensive international activities conducted from Rome. These include major relief operations, diplomatic relations currently with some 96 countries and Observer status at the United Nations.

Only the rich can afford to join anyway in order to suppot the cost of the 'Grand Magistry' - now would you want to support somehting that is called that????!?!?

Cardinal Pell and Brisbane - mediaeval orders

by PatrickW @, Sunday, March 25, 2012, 10:43 (425 days ago) @ Macbee

I have seen 2 0r 3 gatherings at St
Stephens. +Pell is chaplain or patron or something.

I have heard they do a lot of charitable work, but it would, be expensive to join. Their gowns would cost quite a lot.

I think both men and women may join

St Vinnie's doesn't cost anything to join except heart and time. When did you hear of Pell going to any of their Masses or helping out at their works for the poor?

I understand Frank Sinatra was keen to receive a Papal Knighthood but due to his wild lifestyle it was not forthcoming so he settled for purchasing a Knighthood from this mob --The Order of Malta!
