Quitting the Catholic church? (Main Forum)

No matter whether disaffected Catholics join the atheists or the Methodists or some other group or denomination, the result is the same. By removing their burrs from under the bishops' saddles, they slow the ride toward further discussion. These disaffected might heed the advice of John Wesley, who asked his fellow Methodists in 1784 not to split further with the Anglican church that still sheltered them: "Do not rashly tear asunder the sacred ties which unite you to any Christian society."
An interesting article - and of course interesting comments as well. I wonder if other denominations have such a headline?!

Helen., it may be my Irish inheritance, but I have chosen to "stay and stir' at least for now. Why should the bishops have it all their own way, as they will if enough of us leave? But we can minimize our financial support to the Archdioceses while giving the bare necessities to our parishes. If a few Diocese-wide appeals fail, perhaps the message might seep through the mitres that all is not well.
We are still waiting for a new Archbishop for Brisbane. Wonder why no one is rushing into the position? Or have the sensible ones refused?

Well said judith.
Why should we the laity leave?!
After all it is our church?!
Let some of the hierarchy pack up and consider leaving?!
