Vatican Diary / Opus Dei and the gendarmes win the first round - Sandro Magister (Main Forum)

by Helen @, The other side of Australia, Friday, June 29, 2012, 01:12 (329 days ago)

In reality, it is much more. In recent years, the gendarmes have acquired sophisticated weapons and powerful surveillance equipment. By now even the highest offices of the Vatican hierarchies suspect, rightly or wrongly, that their every whisper can be intercepted. To such an extent that the commander of the gendarmes, Domenico Giani, a former agent of the Italian secret service who has been in office since 2006, is now revered and feared almost more than a secretary of state.[/[/b]citation]

and of course this one:

The unprecedented audience given by Benedict XVI on the afternoon of Saturday, June 23 to Cardinals George Pell, Marc Ouellet, Jean-Louis Tauran, Camillo Ruini e Jozef Tomko, and made public by the press office and by "L'Osservatore Romano," has been universally interpreted by the media as an alarm bell for the stability in the role of Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, who was not among the five invited, although this interpretation was quickly denied by Father Lombardi.

Let us light a candle and say to the dark, we beg to differ

Pope seeks advice from top cardinals on credibility crisis

by Roy @, Friday, June 29, 2012, 02:52 (329 days ago) @ Helen

The second meeting was with five cardinals who Father Lombardi said had been chosen for their experience both in Rome and in the worldwide church. They were Cardinal George Pell of Sydney; Cardinal Marc Ouellet, prefect of the Congregation for Bishops; Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Pontifical Counsel for Interreligious Dialogue; Cardinal Camillo Ruini, vicar general emeritus of Rome; and Cardinal Jozef Tomko, prefect emeritus of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

Father Lombardi said the five were chosen to give counsel to the pope on how to "restore a climate of serenity and trust in the work of the Roman Curia."

Pope seeks advice from top cardinals on credibility crisis

by Journeyman, United States, Friday, June 29, 2012, 03:17 (329 days ago) @ Roy

I wonder what brand of "holy smoke" Ratzinger is overdoing it on.

Is it a crop of "divine holy Maryjane" grown in the Vatican conservatory to keep the curia and hierarchy in their own special world?

"Serenity....Trust!!!!" Ratzinger is seated in his heaven, between two rocks, out in the hot summer sun, dreaming the dreams of old senile celibates who believe they have God in their complete control locked in gilded box. The forever 14 year old mentality.

Pope seeks advice from top cardinals on credibility crisis

by kaythegardener, OREGON, USA, Friday, June 29, 2012, 04:12 (329 days ago) @ Journeyman

Pope John's personal secretary & aide mentioned how frequently the 2 of them would walk in the Vatican gardens during the preparatory work for the upcoming Council...
Do you think that the shrewd old peasant suspected that certain Curial leaders would have tried to sabotage it??
Yves Congar's recently released Vatican Diary mentions how often the leading Vatican-based Cardinals were surprised!!

Pell, serenity and trust.

by BobL @, Brisbane (Australia), Friday, June 29, 2012, 08:50 (329 days ago) @ Roy

It is rather difficult to identify sincerity if B16 is looking to Pell to help restore serenity and trust. That Sydney cardinal gentleman is more renowned for division and bullying.

Is george on the Vatican payroll or does Sydney pick up the tab for all this stuff?

Pell, serenity and trust.

by judith, Walloon Australia, Friday, June 29, 2012, 09:02 (329 days ago) @ BobL

If Benedict is relying on the like of Pell to help the Church, then God help all of us, as his track record is not the greatest. I don't know about the others, but his inclusion is a WORRY! If his advice is the best that the Pope can get, the Church is in a sorry state, probably even worse then we imagine and the long-overdue total cleaning out at the top is the way ahead.
