Clive James - 'I'm a man who is approaching his terminus' (Main Forum)

by desi @, Australia, Monday, June 25, 2012, 07:43 (330 days ago)

The prolific writer and critic Clive James, who has long guarded his family's privacy, has let it be known that he is losing his two-year struggle with leukaemia and may never see his native Sydney again. "I'm getting near the end; I'm a man who is approaching his terminus," he said.

Clive James - 'I'm a man who is approaching his terminus'

by judith, Walloon Australia, Monday, June 25, 2012, 14:27 (330 days ago) @ desi

Sorry to hear that Clive James is approaching his terminus. He may be different in his view from me and mine, but he has given me many good laughs. May God grant him a terminus free of pain and struggle.

How very sad his early life was, as his father, having survived the horrors of a prisoner-of-war camp in Japan, was kiled in a plane crash on his way home to Australia. What a terrible blow it must have been for Clive's mother and family, and how it cast shadows over his life.

He said that he thinks that his father only held him once (as a new-born) before he went off to war.

Clive James - untrue rumours

by Sandra @, Monday, June 25, 2012, 18:51 (330 days ago) @ desi

CLIVE James is not dead. He's not close to dead. In fact, he's so not close to dead that he's pretty jolly well alive.

I just copied the above words from Google and they were posted there 7 hours ago. To the best of my knowledge Clive grew up in the same Sydney suburb where I did. He was born around the same time as my sister. We did not know him.

Just wondering now what is the truth as Google article denied the rumours he is close to terminating.

Clive James - speaking honestly

by desi @, Australia, Monday, June 25, 2012, 19:11 (330 days ago) @ Sandra

Listening to the Radio Programme (link above) he is completely honest as to where he is with regard to his health.

He said that he is rather wistful that he won't be able to see Sydney again ('There wouldn't be enough space on the plane fo all the oxygen I'd need!').
