We will never be without noise or distraction of some sort. What we can do is not allow the distractions of life - the cars on the road, the sound of my neighbors TV, the plane flying over the desert - to steal our focus.
Once we grant them attention we lose focus on what is truly important.
Dolores, you are absolutely right. There are always 'planes' going over, whether mental or physical ones, and the best strategy is as you say, not to give them any attention. Thank you for reminding me, too.
Never the less, there are those occasional moments of profound silence, in the natural world, or within oneself, that suddenly open up, and you know "this is what life is all about". I'm sure you know and delight in remembering these too
