Privately, I think that quite a few of those officially canonized in the 20th century should probably go the way of the former St Philomena...
Their elevation seems to have served the more worldly or political ends of the Curia than for the edification of the People of God...
On the other hand, there are many of those "Heroic Friends of God" acclaimed by popular consensus, like Archbishop Oscar Romero and Pope John XXIII, that people remember and invoke, without waiting for the tardy Curialists to give an official seal...
