Will the Canonisation of Mary MacKillop turn things around for the Church? (Main Forum)

by Bpoid @, Australia- victoria, Monday, October 04, 2010, 16:47 (962 days ago) @ Brian Coyne

Historically you are largely accurate. But has it any present day relevance?
I am surprised that people on this site still pay regard to canonization, a bureaucratic procedure that currently seems to me to border on being abused. Is being a saint proclaimed by Rome like a peerage or knighthood and with no more relevance?
Saints originally were proclaimed by the people on the basis of their lives as Mary McK would deserve. Isn't it about time we dispensed with the one miracle, two miracle nonsense and the rest of this carry on?
