Bearing witness to truth... (Sunday Forum)

by vynette @, Brisbane, Australia, Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 17:53 (1152 days ago) @ Francis

Francis,

I couldn't agree with you more when you say:

Honesty and humility, no matter how low we think we have gone, will effectively bring Jesus into contact.

This is a single passage in the New Testament that I ponder before saying anything at all, here or elsewhere -

Pilate therefore said to him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice. [John 18:37]

In my view, if we are going to set up Jesus as our examplar, we also must bear witness to truth. Much as it is unfashionable to say so today, that truth can be found with diligent searching. God is not referred to as a God of Truth if truth cannot be found. Neither is truth likened to a "treasure" or a "pearl of great price" for nothing.

Brian asked how we can know that the gospels are recording facts. Well, I'll post my view shortly.
