(This thread is going bonkers - yes I think we do need to split it up or start a few parallel ones - if any one is interested enough).

Also, excuse the little snipe (not at you) title - it's a little attempt at ironical humour which will make sense at the end of this post.

Thanks again Vynette. What you wrote here has a logic to it that is attractive in its logicalness and as such attractive as truth.

I wish I could keep up with the level of intensity or thinking need but I can't at the moment. It doesn't take much to wear me out and I am quite open out at present and wish I wasn't so as to continue with all this. What I will do, though is add a video of a discussion which I thought also had the same logical attractiveness when I watched it. I know this is shallow undergrad stuff in a way and so 'Entertainment Tonight'-like, but it was interesting none the less. I am posting it here because much of what you wrote above is echoed towards the end when dealing with the trinity and the dual nature of Jesus.

It is interesting that the term Son of Man is often the sticking point - I remember when studying for our teaching degree the priest teaching us theology mentioned that this term "The Son of Man" was actually more radical than the term "The Son of God". I can't remember why, though.

I am also posting a video made by a Messianic Jew as an argument for the divinity of Jesus and God becoming a man.

(You might need to pause it to keep up (if you are a slow reader like me).

I sort of apologise but then again don't for posting such things here: But, honestly, it is probably as much as what most ordinary people get in regards to input and teaching and as such reflects many of us. Hence the need for this discussion for anyone wanting to seriously think about it all.

I know anyone can put anything on the net and make it sound and look convincing and that such things really do need deep and prolonged scholarship to fully grasp but again, much of what is expressed here is interesting at least. What particularly interests me as a result of finding these videos and others is the perceptions of different faiths and non-faiths on the whole question and the possible political and psychological reasons that each of these have in proposing their own particular theories, no doubt based as usual on the utmost important agenda of psycho-spiritual-religious self-preservation.

Having said that, Billy has found a fantastic and so much more thorough series on this whole topic which would be far too long to post here. I would like to suggest that one episode a week be posted and nutted out by anyone interested during the week perhaps. I think this topic deserves this so much as it is not only absolutely central and vital to the faith of billions of people but also at the heart of where so many will say, "enough" and walk away: It is what turned many people against such as Peter Kennedy (especially after his appearance on Q&A, because what he said (similar to what you are saying as far as I can gather at this point) just went too far for so many, even those sympathetic to him and St Mary's.

Just tell me one thing, am I just repeating an error of interpretation by using scriptures here and there like the Messianic/Jewish video above? As so many scholars say, we really do scripture great injustice when we do this. But, fo crying out loud, how are we to know such things without doing a PhD in scripture - this is the thinking behind the need for a magisterium - us ordinary folk cannot hope to understand so follow instead. And so is born the priestly/scribe/pharisee/hierarchical structures and classes - AUTHORITY. Perhaps ++++++++++Bene is right.

Any way, I will leave it at that for now.

Stephen
