He might have been Son of God but was He God incarnate? (Main Forum)

by Oh Yet We Trust, Brisbane, Sunday, February 07, 2010, 11:01 (1203 days ago) @ vynette

I meant in my last post with the video clips to still be questioning the belief that Jesus is God - I know there was no problem with scripture saying Jesus was the Son of God.

Vynette, in case I am one of the ones you are concerned about this being 'disturbing", don't be, it is the very thing we all need to be nutting out.

My question still remains though, was/is Jesus, God, as in Thomas' declaration of "My Lord and my God" when he met Jesus Christ "in the risen flesh" so to speak.

For me, still, while there is no direct reference to Jesus as God in the gospels (except perhaps the one above - the one declared by a more scientifically inclined doubter, there is more to suggest that Jesus was that there is to suggest he wasn't. Add to that the perception of Jesus as God which developed almost immediately after his death and resurrection and I again come back to the question: Why is believing Jesus to be God such a problem? Is it simply that we can't/don't want to cope with or accept such an unscientific, trans/super-natural event, even though we believe in a God. An atheist has every reason to doubt Jesus being God, Christians don't - without this central belief, I can see no reason for or power behind Christianity.

But I await further input, however, I am rather overwhelmed by it all and because of other things in my life but will try to keep apace and listen more. I am, as I have said before, not a scholar in this area but I believe as a man (not) in the pews, my/our perceptions are important, too. God/Jesus does not just speak through the magesterium, the priest or the scholar, does He? We ordinary folk can know/relate to God as well, can't we?

Stephen
