Dealing with pain in our lives (and taking over other people's discussions!)... (Sunday Forum)

by Brian Coyne ⌂ @, LINDEN, NSW, Sunday, May 17, 2009, 12:37 (1465 days ago) @ Oh Yet We Trust

Dear all,

I'm in considerable pain at the moment — with a bad back. I seem to get these attacks about once every twelve months now. I don't know what it is. It seems to be related to the weather more than anything I have actually done that might be construed as "straining" my back. Boy, it's painful though when it comes. I struggled through doing yesterday's layouts but it seemed to improve later in the day — and I ended up programming the new forum late into the night and went to bed feeling good. The pain returned overnight and I'm feeling a cripple this morning.

Reading this long post from Stephen though has led me to hi-jacking it for a Sunday Forum discussion. Essentially what he's talking about is dealing with pain also. A different sort of pain to the one I am experiencing today. When we believers experience pain we tend to end up asking "why me, God?" or "why now, God?"

Enjoy your day. I don't think I'll be so much "discussing pain" as going back to bed to rest it — and hopefully catch up on a bit of reading.

I had to cut a couple of paras from Stephen's commentary as it was over the limit by the time I included the YouTube clip and added the header. They came from towards the end of the article. Here they are:

Oh, life is interesting.

I wanted to include more music and poetry here but it’s already way too long. (For someone who believes more in the value of experience and doesn't like 'argument' I certainly don't have that great trait of 'economy of words' that all good poets have). I am thinking of posting the essay on Paul I mentioned at the beginning to get all your assessment on it. I’d be especially interested in Daniel’s take on it, being a student of Paul. We’ll see.

Cheers,
