Almost a perenial question (Sunday Forum)

by Francis @, Kingsgrove, NSW, Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 22:25 (1523 days ago) @ TonySee

Yes. a perennial question, Marvenlb and Tony See. What Can I do?

The Metropolitan is so far removed and officially elevated that I can have no chance of reform in that area. An assistant bishop who was previously a priest here in fairly down to earth and supports a lot of the spirit of Vatican II. WHAT CAN I DO? I wondered that for years. The parish clergy will discuss things with me but do little to offend the "little ones" and support those who were excited over what Vatican II offered. Most of the people who sit on pews know now very little or anything about Vatican II but like the gradual informality of Church going and join in a semblance of the excitement of what a few enlightened ones have filtered through. The Holy Spirit is dancing around the edge of their minds and they like what they feel. But to go the whole hog would be a bit startling for most.

WHAT CAN I DO? To start nailing theses to the Church door would only have the police called to this maniac. I would not be hailed a martyr and a crowd would not rally to support me.

What I do is be vocal on rare occasions, say a few words in Church to neighbours suggesting a better way (so far, polite acceptance; in one case joy) but predominantly in my personal participation in the Eucharist as a verb in celebrating the Body of Christ.

If I were still in active ministry I would soon be suspended and my wife would be glad of it to have me settle down. I don't want to settle down a far as the needs of the Church are but a hot coal soon fizzles out when constantly covered in ice. So I avoid the ice and keep hot for the very few who remember the excitement of Vatican II.

There are a lot more in the Church who have within them flames of fire for the Church. Knowing they are there keeps my coal burning. Were that flames would erupt and cause a conflagration that would be impossible to be ignored as I can so easily be!

Martin Luther King was aflame and made a big difference. For the Church a few hundred at once would create the needed conflagration.
Maybe they will come from Catholica across the world.
Francis

My purpose is to remember the love that created me in God one with my brothers and sisters and with all life. My function is to extend that love and unity each moment to all.
