Another interesting comparative statistic between the US and Australia... (Main Forum)
One other interesting statistic I came across on the CARA site (see today's lead commentary LINK) was on the fairly massive fall off in the number of Catholic schools and students in the US in recent decades:
I haven't been able to find a comparable table for Australia (or the time to compile one) but just taking the stats from the 1997 and 2010 reports of the National Catholic Education Commission the number of schools has remained relatively static at 1,699 (1997 figure) and 1,701 (2010) figure. The total number students between those years has increased from 622,940 to 712,864. All this, of course, is because of the very different relationship Catholic parents have in Australia with their governments in the matter of how their children's education is funded.
