George Pell - PLEASE EXPLAIN. (Main Forum)

Every person has a right to silence in a police investigation

I fully understand that, Brian, but I have never understood why one would want to remain silent.

I remember, many years ago during a very high profile case in the USA, having a discussion with my teenage son about the accused not giving information in interview and then not taking the stand in his defence. It appeared to most rational people. from the evidence, that he was guilty and that if he was questioned, under oath, he would be found guilty.
(The jury actually found him not guilty but he was later found guilty in a Civil Trial).

We both agreed that if either of us were falsely accused then we would want to speak out right from the beginning especially when we knew that we had truth on our side.

I still don't know why anyone wouldn't want to co-operate with any investigation, especially to ensure that the truth is fully exposed.
