Infallibility again - can't leave it alone can I? (Main Forum)

by Enda, Eastwood, Australia, Friday, July 20, 2012, 16:52 (334 days ago) @ Helen

In 1973 when I was an innocent young man at the National Pastoral Institute in Melbourne someone gave out a page of statements from Rome all of which had been declared De Fide (you have to believe this) or Anathema Sit (you are not allowed to believe this under pain of hell) and asked us the write Anathema or Fide beside each claim. No one got even a majority right. And we were all priests, nuns and brothers and all reasonably well religiously educated. It is amazing the things Catholics have had to believe and been demanded not to believe over 2000 years.

Someone else again claims that Catholic belief goes like this:

You are not to believe this;

We all forget about this for a while;

Some saint says "this is a good idea";

We argue about this for a while;

Someone proves that we have always believed this since Jesus or at least the last apostle;

This is declared an article of faith and we are bound to believe this under pain of hellfire.

Women priests will happen. I don't expect to see it but it will. We might even get to the stage where only women can be priests.
