Still on this Trinity Question, modelling of Church, and dreaming of perfection... (Main Forum)

by Journeyman, United States, Friday, June 29, 2012, 05:15 (357 days ago) @ Brian Coyne

Brian,

A very provocative topic for discussion, of which there will be many views, both orthodox and on the cutting edge.

Trinity....

To me personally, it is more realistic to view the Trinity as three “realities” rather than as three “persons”. Persons are physical entities with dimensions and limitations; a mask. Where as “realities” are the mystery on which we can only attempt to speculate on and try to speak of in very limited human words.

I highly recommend reading Elizabeth Johnson’s excellent book, Quest for the Living God: Mapping Frontiers in the Theology of God. She offers many differ perspectives of how we “envision” God to be, many in our own image and likeness.

The following are my own personal thoughts…

“God/Creator”; “God’s Creation”; and “God’s Power/Ruah” that which binds all three “realities” into One.

God’s Creation came forth from that very first moment of creating love, the “Big Bang”, which happened within God and continues to evolve into its uniqueness as God envisions within God's being.

All of history that has unfolded for 13.7 billion years is the expression of God’s love, in which all of humanity, as it has evolved and will continue to evolve, is gifted to be part of that creation process. The Earth, humanity, and we individually, are but a micro-speck of stardust in a vast universe.

We are all born into life within God and we will die into God at our moment of death. We are within God and God is within us. Isn’t that what Jesus was trying to get the Jewish culture to understand, 2, 000 years ago, and his “Spirit” is still working on getting us today to understand too?

It is “God’s Power/Ruah” that lures us to an ever-receding event horizon, which brings all of creation to the fullness of life, or complete maturity that God envisions. This fullness of life or maturity is different and unique or every aspect of creation. I can only imagine that God rejoices at each new nuance that evolves in the creation process as it continues to unfold. I can also imagine that God’s creation process will continue for 10s of billions of years into the future.

The Nicene Creed and the Apostles Creed are so limiting and out-dated, yet the hierarchical church hangs on to such outmoded thinking, for fear of say that they have been wrong for thousands of years.

The church should be offering humanity something more relevant and current with human knowledge of the universe and creation. God's Spirit pushes us in that direction, whether the hierarchy likes it or not. Humanity comes to know God more deeply, and the experience of God working in one another's life when a true dialogue between equals takes place.
