Is this what you mean - or ouch that hurt! (Main Forum)

I'm glad you stipulated "Catholic" hospital, Judith, because while my confinement was around the same time as yours, the hospital was run, as best I can recall, by the Benevolent Society of NSW. We knew well in advance that I was a high risk patient, and that Bob would be allowed to attend the birth. I was supposed to be confined to bed there for 4 weeks, but Gemma decided that 2 weeks was sufficiently boring, so she put in an early appearance.

As soon as the night nurse had decided that my labour was serious, she dashed off to ring the doctor, then she called Bob, and so we went merrily on. The obstetrician arrived clad in biker leathers, having ridden in from Sutherland Shire, Bob arrived by cab, carrying food and reading matter to sustain him the boring event, and the two of them got on like a house on fire. The female staff, seeing that they weren't needed, went off to attend to the wife of a famous footballer, who had the misfortune to be having a 14 hour labour.

I don't want to brag, but I presented Bob with his first-and-only child just before dawn on Fathers Day.

How clever was that?
