Spiritual and religious maturation... (Main Forum)

by Sue, Sydney, Thursday, June 21, 2012, 08:29 (363 days ago) @ Brian Coyne

One is no longer engaged in this endeavour of saying the Our Father or any other petitionary prayer seeking some "voice in the sky" or even some "inner voice in the head" but it really is a meditative sort of thing — often deliberately seeking a non-active mental state — that allows the "creative juices to flow" and solutions or guiding ideas come to us seemingly "out of the ether". There is no more childish "sucking up to God" or even "asking politely". It literally is some kind of "mystical endeavour" a person becomes engaged in but something very different to being some kind of superstitious process or like reading an Ouija board or engaged in "spiritualist" or seance or clairvoyant type behaviours.

Very well put, Brian. And that flow of creative juices, those solutions and guiding ideas that come seemingly out of the ether, that proces attracts both neuropsychological and religious explanations. But we can ignore those explanations (because explanations are devised by reason or imagination ie. human endeavor) and just accept that they come to us 'out of the ether', the same 'ether' from which came Jesus' experience of feeling loved as a favorite child. If we try to name that 'ether' and create a theology around it, we run into problems. We create an idol and then religion and rules develop....
