It's quite shocking to hear that your friend committed suicide because of the working condions in WA, Judith.

Why aren't the mining companies required to build proper towns in the coast near the mines, to accomodate families, with schools, health services etc.? This should be part of the contract they sign when obtaining the mining lease. Instead everything goes to maximise their huge profits.

Working in the great heat of the NW must be bad enough, without the very long shifts required. Lots of research has shown that prolonged work in such conditions has very bad health outcomes. Will the mine owners be prosecuted when they fail OHS reports?
