Rhubarb, rabbits & chokoes?? (Main Forum)

Chokos are almost foolproof to grow with fruit in abundance. Perhaps that was their appeal. My father was an avid choko grower and with his death twelve years go, our supply lapsed.

Recently my brother moved into the family home and resurrected the choko vine. We were so pleased; we love them and are eating them with gusto at the moment. Boiled (to just the right softness - not too mushy), then lots of salt and pepper and drizzled with butter. Divine! I have half a dozen in my pantry even as we speak. I introduced my husband to them when we were courting and he's as keen as I am to tuck into them.

We humans are funny creatures, aren't we? My mother had a list of foods she avoided because the family lived on them during the depression years. I guess that was the way of chokos for many people. To me they're a culinary delight!
