To be mothers? (Y-not question the Sunday Readings)

by Ynot @, Sunday, May 13, 2012, 14:39 (374 days ago) @ Brian Coyne

I don't mean that in any mean sense, either, like it used to be said, but in the largest sense of mothering.

Well, actually, I just wanted to salute our mothers, all of them...

Brian, one small comment. You wrote:
'It is about finding a guide who can help you discern "the Way" through life.'

If we could see our own self, the tendencies, the leanings, the strengths and weaknessess, then we'd be able to make fairly appropriate decisions as we go along the way that opens out in front of us each day. The spirit guide we're talking about helps us to see what is the actual shape of our judging, so we can make allowance or correct the bias before we commit. And so on.

I'm trying to reduce each statement we make to its simplest form, and your expression above, 'discern "the Way" through life' lends itself to the idea that someone has a blue-print, pre-formatted, pre-planned, pre-ordained, for you and me. I don't find that concept at all helpful, since it might imply that I could lose my way and have no means of getting back onto it. As I discovered, there was no way back, nor was there damnation for losing my pre-ordained path: I just had to get used to finding the way forward day by day, taking the next step, listening to the call of the moment in which Jesus heard the Father's voice.

So for me it is about sharing my life with someone who can reflect back to me enough to allow me to see in myself the things that might make me take a wrong step today...

Happy Mothers Day
