Ian, I am so glad you understood what I was trying to get at. I am often hesitant to express my views because they could easily be taken the wrong way by people like yourself who have already been so very hurt.
I am shocked to hear that any priest would say
“if you criticize your priest you criticize God“
or that they would claim
ontological superiority.
It sounds like they are using the priesthood to prove they must be okay because they know just how depraved they are.
Had I not come to the Catholica website I may never have met people who were victims of this abuse. I can read books and watch movies and intellectually understand but it is in reading the posts from all of you and hearing of your constant struggles that has made this situation real to me. What you speak of is inconceivable to me. I believe you because I know you. How many others never met a victim of this abuse and just find it inconceivable? I wonder if that too is a big part of the problem.
Ah what a tangled web has been woven.
