Well, these falsely pious fools, these anonymous character assassins, these self-proclaimed prophets, these fleas off the backs of rats lurking in the dung of cloisters, these purveyors of self-righteous nonsense,these spiritual poltroons and hypocrites - they would say that, wouldn't they ? I knew one of their number, one of their leaders, who when he left Polding House did not have one person prepared to come to his farewell, but was still prepared to foster lies, defamation, and scandal.
A poltroon is craven, dastard, an ignoble or total coward, a mean-spirited wretch.
