This is no ordinary resignation. What has brought on this rebellion? (Main Forum)

Every year there are many priests who leave the priesthood around the world for various reasons. Usually it occurs very quietly and, other than those in the immediate vicinity, most people are probably not aware of it happening. It is rare to see such a public resignation like this one.

What is particularly interesting is that Kevin Lee appears to be from a very orthodox and conservative background. At one time he was involved in a "dobbing in" exercise of priests at one of the seminaries who were alleged to be using the words "Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier" at the beginning of Mass rather that "Father, Son and Holy Spirit". This was public enough that it got mention in the Catholic Press. Lee was the one pressing the complaints against the so-called "liberal" priests. The new bishop in Parramatta has been on a campaign to "restore orthodoxy" in his schools and parishes and it was rumoured at one stage that Kevin Lee was going to be placed in charge of Catechesis at a more advanced level because of his orthodox credentials.

This spectacular and very public resignation seems all the more interesting because of Fr Lee's past history and connections. What brings on "rebellions" of this kind?
