Seriously: three questions we need to sit with for awhile... (Main Forum)

by Brian Coyne ⌂ @, LINDEN, NSW, Tuesday, May 01, 2012, 12:15 (387 days ago) @ Brian Coyne

The foregoing post was not put there merely for entertainment. I think there are three serious questions and a proposition we need to sit and mull on (and so do those leading the Church in the Vatican — albeit that it might literally take a nuclear explosion to break through to enable them to hear anything from the outside world)...

QUESTION ONE:

Jesus himself seemed to warn society would always be struggling with a Pharisee and Zealot element. What's all that about?

QUESTION TWO:

Why, amidst what was supposed to be "Good News", was so much space spent in what are essentially lessons about how to deal with Pharisees and Zealots?

QUESTION THREE:

Is the great existential search human society is going through today some kind of realisation — following the discovery of things like Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle in 1927 [Wikipedia] — that uncertainty is inherent to Life?

THE PROPOSITION:

We (humankind) have to learn to live with uncertainty (the lack of answers about many things) and in those situations we are not allowed — morally "not allowed" — to invent fairy tales and dogmas to try and paper over the inherent anxiety that the lack of answers brings with it.
