The ideological take over of Catholic higher education... (Main Forum)

by Brian Coyne ⌂ @, LINDEN, NSW, Monday, April 30, 2012, 22:03 (391 days ago) @ Cliffy

Cliffy, thanks for alerting us to this story. As we have reported here on Catholica for some time there are people worried about the gradual idealogical takeover of Catholic higher education that has been self-evidently underway in this country for many years. The great majority of the bishops seem either to be oblivious to what is going on or they are naive or simply without the political and intelligence skills to question it.

The sad thing today is that there is no credible or specialist religious affairs coverage in the secular media any longer to question developments like this — Barney Zwartz at the Age in Melbourne is the last of a dying breed. Institutional religion is simply no longer seen by the secular press as a priority in a world where the drying up of classified advertising revenue is changing the media landscape in ways we scarce could have imagined even ten years ago. There is nobody to "shine a light" on developments such as what has been going on in the higher ranks of the Church. Self-evidently the church-owned media is not going to shine a light on any developments like this. One wonders how much debate goes on amongst the academics still earning their living within the system about what is going on?
