There was a time when I had to regularly ring up presbyteries. I found it unnerving. So often the man on the other end would presume to call me by my Christian name though he did not know me yet demand that I call him Father. This might sound trivial but I so often felt as though I was being treated as a child. This culture of PARENT-child has done enormous damage both to the men who often remained eternal teenagers and to the ordinary folk who have been so regularly patronised.
Now it has all fallen apart.
