Vatican Charades Rumour...

Commentary Headline

Dear Friends,

I'm utterly exhausted having spent about 30 hours on the weekend editing a video about Catholica that we've been asked to produce. The first part of it can be viewed privately in our members' forum for those who are registered. Because of that I am without the required energy to do the layout for Tom McMahon's mini-commentary today and will have to hold it over. The big news, or "rumour", which I've just placed on our forum is "A well-placed commentator located in Rome reckons 'they're going to move Oullett from Bishops to State or CDF (still undecided which one) and Pell into Bishops after all'."

Secretary of State at the moment is Tarcisio Bertone – the one at the centre of the Vatileaks scandal. Cdl William Levada heads the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith.

Don't be at all surprised if this comes about. The implications of it all for Australia are pretty devasting whichever way it all pans out. If Pell were to get a promotion to Rome who would succeed him in Australia? There are a couple with ambition but without the political skills of Pell and doubtfully short on any other skills as well. Australia may well end up in a more diabolical mess than the one it is already in. As for Pell being in charge of the appointments of bishops all around the world ... well what can anyone say? I think the faster it all happens the better. This will "bring on" the "smaller, purer Church" faster than anything that could be imagined. In the overall picture I think it ought be encouraged as a very good thing.

Wishing you a great day wherever you happen to be ... in life and in our world.
