Ancient and modern views on sexuality issues...

Commentary Headline

Dear Friends,

This really is another case of God-incidence today in a set of commentaries from Tom McMahon and Dr Ian Elmer that are as perfectly matched as the two last week on womanhood. I decided yesterday to run Tom McMahon's delayed commentary on human sexuality today alongside the next most read of Ian Elmer's commentaries from last year. Little did I realise at the time that the very commentary from Ian that comes it at number ten is one examining the views of Jesus on the subject of human sexuality. What you get today then are two perspectives, one ancient and the other contemporary, that provide much food for thought on this difficult subject of sex, sexuality and the moral rules to it all. While many of us might argue that the institutional church has made a mess of the subject equally we can see all around us — from the sleeze in so much of the media to the difficulties so many have in relationships today — that as a society we are searching for a better understanding about how to manage this important aspect of our being. As parents, grandparents and elders what is the advice we would pass on learned from our own failings, misunderstandings, as well as the life enhancing lessons we've learned?
