Not Three Sixes but Three Nines!
Dear Friends,
Our lead commentary today might be centred on the three sixes but today is the 999th day that Catholica has been published.

It's an interesting commentary today from Daniel Gullotta. He wrote it last year when he was still a theology student at ACU and examining the different theological understandings within Christianity of the concept of Hell. It's a subject that you don't hear much about today from mainstream priests and bishops because of the touchiness of the sector of the population who don't like the traditional images disturbed. Daniel though "descends fearlessly" but emerges a little unsure of what his own position is today. There's much interesting material for discussion coming out of this commentary. I'm particularly intrigued by the sections where he discusses Christ's own "descent into hell". Daniel only brushes the surface but this might be an interesting subject we can follow-up on at some time. What is the theological meaning we are meant to draw out of this?

Follow-up to the discussion on prayer yesterday...
Thank you for the responses to the discussion on prayer that I started yesterday. The question left still hanging in my mind from a response posted by Tony Ynot is this: Does prayer increase the flow of God-incidences in our lives? Or, put another way, does the coincidence and serendipty of life dry up if we cease praying? My own experience is that they don't — the actions of the Creator-God would seem to be un-restrained and un-conditional on our responses — but it may well be that in times of depression and "the spiritual desert" it is harder for us to see them. What do you think?
