Universal -vs- Local...

Dear Friends,

My apologies for no email yesterday. Despite the lack of an email yesterday we established a new daily record for the number of visits to Catholica and for the first time ever I keep receiving email messages every hour or so warning that our website is about to exceed its monthly bandwidth quota. In simple language that means that our website has received so many visits this month that server is getting close to the point where it can't handle the volume of traffic. It's a very good place for us to be in albeit that we are now going to have to go out and purchase both more server space and more bandwidth to cope with the continued growth of Catholica. There's little doubt the extraordinary traffic yesterday would have been triggered by the information I placed on the forum late on Wednesday about some developments at the Australian Catholic University. If, by any chance, you haven't caught up on that here's the link (See: "What do the other bishops in Australia have to say about this?"). The lack of an email yesterday simply came about because of the temporary pressures caused by some work we were doing here. I provided an explanation HERE on our forum along with a recording of the song that caused the delay.

Commentary Headline

In today's continuing series for The Year of St Paul, our resident Pauline scholar, Dr Ian Elmer draws out St Paul's thinking on the conflicts between a local church and a universal church. As he says at the end it's a question that continues to be very relevant to the conflicts that we continue to have to battle with today between those whose prime focus is the local parish or diocese and those who seek a uniform international church.
