Church: Bulldozer or Iceberg?

Dear Friends,

Our lead commentary today is a review of Robert Blair Kaiser's novel, "Cardinal Mahony". Peregrinus, our reviewer, suggests Kaiser compares the Catholic Church to a huge, unstable iceberg about to roll over. Watching the unfolding events here in Sydney I am wondering if it might be better likened to a Bulldozer. Colkoch in our forum today described it as "contrived idolatry". The juggernaut rolls on driven by its tight schedule and with those who hold the rudder seemingly oblivious to the deep hurt it leaves in its wake. Christine and Anthony Foster, whose two daughters were raped in primary school by a notorious priest in Melbourne who was at large for decades despite Church authorities being aware of his activities have become symbols of the destruction left in the wake of the bulldozer. Will the bulldozer pause, address their pain, and seriously endeavour to provide them with real reconciliation? <Click here to read Pere's review>
