Searching for the Truth!

Dear Friends,

Headline banner

The TabletFirst some good news... our august Tuesday commentator, Dr Andrew Kania, has scored the honour of writing today's cover story for the London Tablet to lead off their focus on Australia for the impending visit of Pope Benedict and the World Youth Day celebrations in the coming week. Andrew told me today that he spent six week's "walking around thinking about the subject" before his fingers started hitting the keyboard. I think it is a superb analysis of the state of the Catholic Church in Australia and how it came to be like it is. Congratulations Andrew and also congratulations on your recent appointment as a Research Fellow at Blackfriars.

Benedict and the Search for Truth by Robert TilleyOur lead commentary today... it's a sort of book review except I haven't read the book yet. I'm sure what I have to write though might stimulate considerable interest in this book by Robert Tilley entitled "Benedict XVI and the Search for Truth". It has been recommended to Milly and myself by two totally different readers of Catholica. I've found some stuff it in the Preface and Introduction which truly does excite me but I also have some hesitations. I'm hoping this book might provide me with some answers to some pretty important differences of opinion I have with where Pope Benedict seems to be leading my Church. Is Benedict merely regurgitating the failed polices of the mainstream succession of pontiff's we've had since the French Revolution and which I claim have led to this embarrassing situation where more people have simply "given up" or does he truly have access to "The Truth" that can turn the situation around? What I am endeavouring to do in the commentary today is open up a discussion on Catholica, and perhaps wider afield, on the important themes that Robert Tilley is examining in this book. <Click here to read today's lead commentary>

Wishing you a great day wherever you happen to be ... in life and in our world.
