A very adult way of looking at God's relationship to us…

Dear Friends,

I keep arguing that an irreconcilable divide has opened up within Christianity and the Church. There are two mutually exclusive views of who God is and what relationship he calls each of us into. One view is what I dub the "hoop-jumper view" — "do this, and this, and this, and don't do that, and that, and that, and eventually you'll be rewarded with salvation or heaven for 'being good'". I argue most people in the Western world have increasingly been walking away from that view and searching for a better view — one that better accords with the reality of God as we discern the Divine in our lives.

The commentary Dr Andrew Kania delivers to us today seems to me to frame a better understanding of the relationship Gos calls us into. This is adult spirituality at its best. This ain't social conformism Catholicism, it ain't "Hoop-Jumping" Catholicsm, and it isn't "Goody Two Shoes" Catholicism, wherein we have this view of trying to suck up to God in the hope that God might eventually be nice to us. This is looking at the relationship we are invited to have with the Divine in a very adult and mature way. Congratulations, Andrew, I'd place this one somewhere up in the top ten commentaries you've given us. <Read Dr Kania's commentary>

LET BENEDICT KNOW HOW YOU FEEL: If you are of a mind to write to the Pope along with the others who are writing to him at the invitation of Paul Collins and Frank Purcell, you need to get your letters to Paul and Frank by this coming Thursday, 3rd July. Today is about the last day you have to pen your letter. <Link to more information about this initiative>

Wishing you a great day wherever you happen to be ... in life and in our world.
