If the church were really serious about winning on the life issues
what should it do?

Dear Friends,

Andrew Kania looks at the third of the fifth commandment issues he's been examining today — euthanasia. Like abortion, it's on the rise in the world. A couple of days ago on one of the discussions board I look at someone posted a message showing the places where gay marriage is now on the statute books around thw world. For all the posturing over a long period of time the Catholic Church seems to have made little headway.

I have to say I personally find the euthanasia issue even more eye-glazing than the adortion issue these days. Not eye-glazing in the sense that I approve of euthanasia. I most definitely don't. But eye-glazing in that I am sick of Catholics rabbitting on about the subject in ways that actually does nothing to provide meaningful answers to the world at large "out there". People don't want to hear "God's Law" stuff. They haven't listened to it on the abortion issue and society at large has basically "shut down" in listening to anything much that our Church has to say. I think that is a tragedy — for the world as much as for Catholicism. Let me get this email off. I can feel some really good discussions coming up in our forum today and in coming days. <Read Andrew's commentary>
