We're not splitting — it's those others who are doing it!

Dear Friends,

In today's newspapers (The Age and The SMH) the head of the Sydney Anglicans, Archbishop Peter Jensen, says it's not his group which is splitting from the Anglican Church, it's the liberals. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Interestingly, these games in the Anglican Church are being played out today in Jerusalem and it seems the resident head of the Anglicans in Jerusalem isn't that keen for his territory being used in this way. That all provides a good backdrop though for today's lead commentary on Catholica. The section of Tom Lee's manuscript we examine today has its focus on the very First Council of the nascent Christian Church held in Jerusalem in 49CE. That was over a dispute as to whether the message of Jesus was even relevant to us Gentiles. One might wonder what James, Paul, Peter and the other major players at that First Council would make of the games being played out in Christianity in 2008? They'd probably be a bit startled that we were still waiting for the return of the Messiah and stuffing around with word games while we wait rather than focusing on the real deal. <Read Tom Lee's commentary>
