Bishop Robinson defies attempted censure in Canada

Dear Friends,

Headline banner

The Canadians are now dubbing it L'Affaire Robinson. It is difficult to remember a development like this in the last few decades of Catholic Church history where one man has created so much interest with ideas that do essentially challenge core ideas as to how the institution perceives itself and presents itself to the world. Now the Archbishop of Toronto has sought to impede Bishop Robinson's visit to Canada but Bishop Robinson has calmy but emphatically responded by defying the censure, as he has done all the other attempts to impede his lectures in the United States. He will be speaking in Toronto on Sunday. Today in Catholica it is our great pleasure to bring you the first of what we hope might be a regular exchange of commentaries with Canadian writers through the relatively new internet initiative in that country, New Catholic Times Sensus Fidelium. Today we have two reports. One by the editor of nctsf, Ted Schmidt, explains the attempt to censure Bishop Robinson and his report also gives the flavour of how they are reporting Bishop Robinson's scheduled appearance in Canada. The second report is by nctsf journalist, John Quinn, who travelled to Philadelphia and he reports on what was discussed at the major and opening symposium of Bishop Robinson's North American tour. To provide you with an even wider perspective we also provide links to two NCR articles in this week's edition which also cover Bishop Robinson's speaking tour. We live in fascinating times. <Read the Canadian reports>

Best wishes for a great day wherever you happen to be ... in life or in our world!
