Bishop Robinson rejects ACBC criticism…
Dear Friends,
It really isn't the main business of Catholica to be breaking news as we have been in the last 24 hours but, when it happens you just have to deal with it. Today the big news is Bishop Geoffrey Robinson's response to the Australian Bishops' criticism of his book. It's a pretty blunt rejection of their criticism. Somebody emailed me wondering what might happen to Bishop Robinson as a consequence. My response was: "From what I am picking up he is not worried. This is a matter of conscience and he will follow wherever his conscience leads him and whatever the consequences. I admire the man." <Read Bishop Robinson's response to the Australian Bishops>
All the news yesterday left Fr Dan Donovan's lead commentary in its wake a little. Incidentally, he's sent in a letter in response to the news yesterday, and I have published that as both a letter to the editor in the forum, and as an addendum to the news story above. I'd urge you not to miss his commentary though. In many ways it dovetails in with this whole discussion because what he outlines today could also be applied in situations where a priest is actually removed from a parish because of bad behaviour. <Read Fr Dan's reflection>
