The two greatest spiritual challenges of life… Dear Friends, This morning was really one of those mornings where I was strongly tempted to "call in sick". I'm still burning the wick at both ends learning a new programing language and trying to cram more into the limited minutes of each day than should be possible. I'm glad I didn't take s sickie though because Daniel Gullotta's commentary today is a corker — the sort of stuff I'd wished I'd learned more about perhaps forty years ago. Similar to what Tom Lee has been doing in his series, but in a different, perhaps more compact, style Daniel is looking at who were these Jewish people who are our spiritual ancestors — and our contemporary brothers and sisters (even if their behaviours in the Middle East at the moment are causing many of us much consternation) Don't miss Daniel's commentary. It's a little longer than normal as he's deliberately trying to time a certain part of his series to coincide with Easter and to get to that point he's "speeding things up". Beofre you get to that though I had a brainspin a couple of minutes ago while I was making a quick cup of tea prioer to finishing today's edition: I think I've finally worked out what the two greatest spiritual challenges are (LOL. I am being a bit facetious here. Is it possible for any sane person to articulate what the two greatest spiritual challenges of life are?) Ready? Here they are: the first is simply trying to work out what God is telling us to do with ourselves. The second is being able to accept that when he wants you to what we colloquially called in the Army, "eat shit", you'll bloody well go and eat it. In other words to take on something you'd personally prefer not to have to take on. Is that what Jesus is trying to tell us or is this (quite apart from the coarse language I have used) an abomination of the story and model he presents for us? <Read Daniel's commentary> |
