Jesus looked at through youthful and ageing eyes… Dear Friends, Daniel Gullotta today begins what promises to be a very interesting series. Based on the work of Anglican theologian, Dr NT Wright (Bishop of Durham), it will be exploring the questions involved in the search for the historical Jesus. I'm looking forward to the series for two principal reasons: firstly I have been finding it valuable looking at all this Jesus stuff again through the eyes of a young theology student. As he discloses in his essay today, Daniel is a recent convert also and I find converts tend to challenge us in looking at what we believe in new ways. Secondly I suspect Daniel's treatment might provide some counterpoint to the series by Tom Lee. Tom, like myself, is much older than Daniel — he's even older than me — and we're both getting a bit cynical and skeptical about some of the shennagins that has gone on under the name of Jesus down through the centuries and into our own day. Some might argue we have become too cynical and "doubting Thomases". Looking at all these questions both Daniel and Tom Lee have posed in their introductory commentaries through the eyes of guys at opposite ends of the age spectrum promises some merit. <Read Daniel's introductory commentary> |
