Bishop Pat Power calls for re-vitalising of the Church Dear Friends, Few words from me today instead it is a pleasure to present a powerful address Bishop Pat Power gave a couple of weeks ago at Chevalier College in Bowral. I'm actually not sure who the audience was. Bishop Pat sent the reflection in as a result of a recent comment I made to many of the bishops when I asked them to keep us in mind if they had commentaries that might be of interest to the readership Catholica is seeking to reach — the educated sectors of the 85% who have become disenchanted with the Church. He does voice some criticisms of what he sees as the sectors of the Church who are constraining forward movement but, in the main, this is a very optimistic commentary seeking to draw out and emphasis key elements of the vision the collective leadership of the Church sought to give the Church at the Second Vatican Council through the Pastoral Constitution of the Church in the Modern World — Gaudium et Spes. He ends the commentary with what he calls a contemporary parable asking if the Musical Director of The Choir of Hard Knocks, Jonathon Welch, offers to us some kind of vision of the Christ figure that all of us in the Church are called to be. <Click HERE to read Bishop Power's commentary> Pre-Christmas Social Get-together: Some of the members of the Catholica Forum in the Sydney area are organising a pre-Christmas social get-together.
