Another lay response to Bishop Mannings thoughts…

Dear friends,

Firstly just a note about a possible technical problem with the emails. I received an email from one person on our database who has not been receiving the daily emails this week. The emails have in fact been sent out each day except we didn't publish last Sunday. That has been the only day since 30th June when a daily email was not sent out. I do send myself four check email each day to different email addresses that are scattered through the database. I have noticed recently that sometimes only two or three of them are returned to me. How you can help me is simple: if you can recall times in the last month, with the exception of last Sunday, when you didn't receive the daily email could you let me know privately by email. My email address is editor@catholica.com.au. This may help us evaluate if there is a problem and how widspread it is. And no jokes please: I do appreciate that if anyone doesn't receive this email they have not way of telling me about their loss today!!!

Humanae Vitae … again: In recent days a significant storm has been whipped up on both the CathNews discussion board and our own on the matter of artificial contraception and Humanae Vitae. I suspect the trigger for all this has been the remarks Bishop Manning made on the subject in the interview I published on Tuesday. There has been some excellent stuff written on both discussion boards that is well worth reading. One post early this morning got me thinking about what sort of change is actually needed — or what sort of change will be made in 400 years time when someone in the Vatican finally gets around to the Galileo-type correction LOL? It got me thinking and I'm going to start a new string on our discussion board calling for your ideas as to how you would correct the damage that has been done by Humanae Vitae if you were in a position of carrying the moral responsibility for the welfare of the institutional Church. I'll post it on the board as soon as I've sent out today's email.

In the meantime today's commentary is addressing similar ground. It's from a man with a wealth of experience in marriage counselling over nearly nearly 50 years in the Catholic context. Peter Beeson shares a few thoughts with us after mulling over what Bishop Kevin Manning had to say on Tuesday. <Click HERE to read Peter Beeson's commentary>
