The balances between the sexes...

Dear friends,

I guess one of the things we can't complain about these days is a lack of material for spiritual reflection. I have simply never known a time where so much good spiritual material is published everyday. The challenge is in keeping up with it all.

In a sense today our focus is on two articles from those now significant international commentators from National Catholic Reporter, Sr Joan Chittister OSB and John L Allen Jr. In another sense they are both talking about the same issue — the disparity between the sexes. We have a long way to go before we get this balance right.

AvatarOn John Allen's comments about the position of women in the Church Ruth's quite enamoured of the arguments John Allen has advanced in National Catholic Reporter about the Church doing much more for the dignity of women. She thinks women for far too long haven't been listened to and treated as second class in "the faithful". [more]
