EDITOR'S ROUND-UP

On leadership and vision...
Friday, 20th October 2006

Dear friends,

Very quick email today as I am running a bit late. I have more than enough to say though in Tom's Take and, in turn, that ought lead you on to two other excellent reflections, one from The Age and the other from OnLine Catholics.

Unfortunately in these emails I cannot send multi-media content or flash files. One of the reasons I'm late this morning is I've spent the last hour friggin' around trying to get today's "Do You Know" segment to work in a slightly different way to the flash files I've used before. Sometimes these technical things are really fiddly. You can't see the finished result in this email but it is available on the home page. It's from a small book I'm enjoying at the moment by David Dale called "Who We Are — a miscellany of the New Australia". The bit I've selected today is from "Australia's most inspiring speeches".

And on that note I trust you continue to be inspired by all the good stuff that is happening on Catholica these days. I think the quality of discussion now happening in our forum is excellent. Congratulations to all who are making it happen.

And don't forget to keep entries coming in for our little mate. Six bottles of SevenHill wine — now what could be more Catholic than that as a prize!

AvatarThoughts on leadership and vision Tom Scott directs attention to two recent articles, one from the realm of Australian secular politics in The Age Newspaper, the other this week's lead story in OnLine Catholics. He suggests they have lessons for the institutional Church on why she is unable to offer a vision of the Jesus message that is retaining the partipation of her flock. [more]

DID YOU KNOW...

AvatarThis is listed amongst Australia's most inspiring speeches... It's from the Deakin Lecture delivered in 2001 by Dr John Carroll, Professor of Sociology at Latrobe University on the dreaming of white Australians. [more]

Best wishes for a great day wherever you happen to be ... in life, and in our world.
