Reporting on the Blue Mountains Kumbya Remembrance Festival
Sister Feralia reporting again. Not since the Post Vatican II Hymnal Riots of 1967 have I felt so distressed. We have sent Sister Francina's guitar to the makers for repair. Her passing in the mosh pit is much regretted. Her autographed picture of Harry Belafonte and her collection of vinyl records, including her favorite 'Dominique' by Sister Smile have been sent to her grieving family in Toowoomba. We pray that they are of some comfort in their time of loss. I have received a stern letter of inquiry from the Chancery and I must admit that it is "with deep anxiety" I write a reply. I feel like Pius XI in 1937 when he issued his encyclical Mit Brennender Sorge condemning the Nazi ideology of racism and totalitarianism.. I mean how would we have known that Catholics United For An Aryan and Liberal Faith. would have attended our Blue Mountains Kumbya Remembrance Festival? Their arrival and further discord among members of the Maronite and Hezbollah Joint Choir marred what should have been a landmark prelude leading towards World Youth Day. The shouting of Sieg Heil during the readings from Goethe and the playing of Wagner by Sister Kraus was most unwelcome. The Prime Minister, Mr John Howard, and Mr David Clarke MLC, Liberal Member of the Upper House of New South Wales and an Opus Dei leader, were invited to attend but sent apologies indicating that the Music Festival was an occasion best left to the younger, more vigorous and exuberant members of the community. I know they are both busy men. Let me say that the singing of Roll Me Over in the Clover to drown out Sister Francina's rendition of Come as You Are went far beyond youthful exuberance. At this point I would like to pay tribute to Father 'Leaper' Leppington for his attempts at intervention. I know that all Sisters will join in prayer for his rapid recovery. You will be pleased to know that he has now been moved from intensive care and his condition has changed from serious to stable. I'll pass over the many distressing periods of the concert, including the urination on stage, the throwing of beer cans, the chanting of Jesus the Non-Jew King, and the use of smoke bombs to eliminate the 'pagan' Aboriginal Smoking Ceremony to pay tribute to Sister Massifa whose tai kwan do skills were examples of muscular Christianity at its best. I have written a note to Father Farzenheim, Youth Advisor to the Chancery detailing to many incidents of racism, homophobia and xenophobia demonstrated by our unwelcome visitors He has replied by telephone that he considers that the happenings could be attributed to 'youthful exuberance' as the Sydney Morning Herald pointed out in an editorial commenting upon Kristallnacht in youthful Germany on November 9, 1938. Father Farzenheim also corrected me that the correct name is Reichskristallnacht (literally Imperial Crystal Night) or, Pogromnacht or the Night of Broken Glass. Father says that the issue will be debated and put to a vote by his Council and ballots of blank ballot papers are being prepared and distributed by trustful officers. Money is also being distributed to ensure a valid and authentic determination. Several new branches of his organization are being rapidly formed. When I mentioned Pius XI and how he started Catholic Action, Father Farzenheim was bitterly critical of the late pope for his suppression of Action Française, the monarchist movement in France.
He made a further comment regarding male anatomy that I shall not repeat. Well, Sisters, we have seen what testosterone can do at a Sacred Music Festival. That's all I can say. Where would we have been without Sister Massifa, I ask you? Keep up the struggle. Until next time, Feralia
